Founded early 2020 by two CBD aficionado fascinated by the numerous healing properties of cannabinoids ranging from chronic pain, inflammation to stress and depression. With the intention to debunk the myths and misunderstanding around these naturally occurring compounds, the co founders set course on their adversarial journey to help consumers understand the dynamics of various CBD derived products.
We work exclusively with small, family owned farms to grow our hemp to organic standards. After harvesting, our hemp is processed by CO2 extraction to ensure zero residual solvents.
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the Cannabis sativa plant. It's a naturally occurring, not psychoactive substance that's used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calmness.

The word cannabinoids refers to every chemical substance, regardless its origin or structure, that joins the cannabinoid receptors of the body and brain and that have similar effects to those produced by the plant Cannabis Sativa L. Cannabinoids are known to be a cornerstone of pain relief and healing with cannabis. They are a class of chemical compounds derived from hemp and cannabis that interact directly with the cannabinoid receptors found throughout the endocannabinoid system (“ECS”).
What is CBD Oil?
At Mawanla, our CBD oil is derived from hemp plants and contains zero THC. CBD content of CBD oil can vary tremendously across different vendors due to the varying quality of hemp that's used, as well as varying preparation and extraction techniques. Are CBD derived products legal in Hong Kong?
CBD is legal in Hong Kong. According to several official government press announcements, CBD (cannabidiol) is not classified as a dangerous drug and is therefore not controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. It’s important to note that THC and its derivatives are illegal in Hong Kong and anything containing these substances is prohibited. When purchasing CBD products, it is important to look at labels or ask the seller to make sure you are purchasing Broad Spectrum CBD or CBD Isolate-based products to avoid unintentionally breaching the law.
Is CBD safe?
As per the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD is deemed a safe, non-toxic and non-addictive substance. Here’s what they have to say: CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.” CBD has few known side effects and when they occur, they are typically minor and non-threatening. A recent report by the National Cancer Institute – a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – notes that overdosing on CBD is virtually impossible. Per the report: “Because cannabinoid receptors, unlike opioid receptors, are not located in the brainstem areas controlling respiration, lethal overdoses from Cannabis and cannabinoids do not occur.”
